SD card issues

Hello, I'm new on these forums but I have been into photography ever since I was little. Well anyways, I got a new memory card for my camera, and now the file numbering is starting from IMG_0001 all over again, resulting in a big mass of confusion with duplicate file names. Is there any way to get it to start numbering from where I left off on my old sd card? I was at IMG_7170 and I do NOT want to end up with seven thousand pictures with the same name... and I don't want to go through and rename them all

it is a setting within the menu of your camera. Your camera's manual is your holy book, read and re-read
