Go to the HSL palette, take all the individual saturation sliders to zero, bring back the colour you want (say red) now save that as your preset, the only problem you might have is unwanted items showing up red as well, maybe some skintones or car in background etc. Simply use the local ajustment brush with saturation at zero to "paint out" the things you don't want coloured.

I think the OP asked how to do selective coloring, not people's opinions on it. Just because someone don't like it doesen't mean everyone don't like it. There, that's my opinion lol...
