Self Portrait (Head shot)

I'm constantly attempting to shoot pictures of myself, and never seem to get a good shot. I actually found one that I'm fairly satisfied with. What are your thoughts?

Great! The background is very simple, nice use of your aperture. But you have a strong light on the top of your head, and it makes the picture a bit uneven. But I also love your eyes! Try to emphasize them.

Thanks, I pretty much was just toying with my 50mm, I've never actually gotten to use it on a person (besides myself). I basically tossed my camera up on my bookshelf, aimed at the wall, and used my remote to snap of a shot. I probably could have benefited slightly from using the on camera flash to offset the overhead lights.

It's not the easiest thing to do when trying for a close up portrait of one self.

There is a whole lot of soft around your eyes, which for me kills a portrait. This is almost certainly due to a combo of aperture and focus points.

Yeah, due to lack of real planning to the shot, I used a center weighted auto focus, with a 2.2 aperture. In hindsight, I probably should have ramped it up to about 3.5 or 4.

Personally I don't like the colorized eyes because the hilights and blacks are blue but I do like it

I like the original shot best...the background is a bit distracting to me..the white square needs to go...other than that, the photo is pretty good
