I'm afraid it doesn't work that way. What you have effectively done is to melt yourself into the dayk abyss of the background rather than accentuate your mask. I believe it is underexposed as well. Not meaning to get personal, but you have a rounder facial form. If you were to research on short lighting, I believe this would be a more flattering light pattern. This will put the modeling (shadowed side) towards the camera and will help elongate the face.
The second shot is completely flat for lighting.
You can also see that there are two catchlights in each eye. I would remove one of them, the more centerd, on the pupil.
