I like the first version better. In the second version I can notice more of the "transition" between your face and the lions.

Either way, this is a really cool idea, and I think you pulled it off nicely.

I prefer the color version. you can really see the details in the lions fur. I think the transition was actually done pretty well too.

Maybe a little bit more of your face, and ditch the selective coloring. But good job on this version. I like the thinking outside the box.
