Carry this puppy on planes all the time. Works like a charm tightening various camera related accessories. Plus it opens beers.

I've never been able to figure out what that straight protrusion behind the bottle opener was for.

I just put my SAK in a checked bag and retrieve at the luggage carousel. I generally keep one in or attached to my camera bag.

Don't quite understand that one. I have used the d-Ring on my manfrotto plate to attach to the BR strap. How is that one different?

It's for prying the tab up on a can. So, basically, it's just decoration, lol.

(It's been at least 15 or 20 years since they've made cans that were actually hard enough to open to need that...)

Or just use your keys so you can really hork it down.

None of the keys I carry would fit in the slot.

The slot on mine accomodates any coin, so a quarter works pretty well. Still like the one you've found better, and look forward to its delivery.

I got my 410 last week, and immediately found a ¼x20 D-ring machine bolt that replaces the one in an RC2 QR plate. Now I don't need to haul around a screwdriver.

And as buckster said, yes please let us know where you got that.

I'd like to know too; I can't find them listed on McMaster-Carr's website, and in my experience, if they don't carry a particular fastener, it don't exist!

Two things to know: The threads are too long, so they'll bottom out in the camera before tightening the QR plate solidly. So you'll need to cut or grind it down. Also, the D-ring portion will run against the raised portion of the plate that runs parallel to the slot, so you'll need a thin flat washer.

Ask me that when the D Ring fails. When Black Rapid first started they suggested doing what you are talking about. Ring failures brought on complaints. Black Rapid responded by creating a stronger fastener. Manfrotto did not design their fastener to have gear hung from the D Ring.

I have a similar one. Doesn't fit in the RC4 bolt's slot.

It looks like the same seller has the same bolts in a shorter shaft length (so it wont bottom out and you wont have to cut it shorter and grind it).

Not quite long enough... especially when you add a washer to clear the ridge on the 'bottom' of the plate.
