Some of the newer cameras will you let you connect to your smartphone and use it as a remote. One cool thing about this is that on some it gives you a live view to help with framing and adjusting your pose/posture.

I just set the camera on a tripod and adjust the settings for a proper exposure, switch to live view after I am done with that and since I have a flip screen on my camera I use the flip screen to see my self before the shot it taken which is nice but not really needed. I have a photive remote control that I got for a few bucks so I use that or self timer and the camera will focus on me and snap the shot.

pretty easy really and that is about all there is too it.

To focus I get my camera off the tripod, sit where I am going position myself for the photo, manual focus on the tripod then mount the camera back on the tripod. Release the shutter with a wireless remote.

So simple...

Why have I never thought of that?!!

Surprised I haven't seen the solution I use:

I have a 5ft USB cable and my laptop with my camera connected then pop open the remote software.This lets me get flawless focus, framing, and lighting without having to get up and check the camera after every shot since you can use liveview while the camera is pointing at you.

Anyone else do this?
