Shack in the woods, half a sun set on lake front

I was just cruising around tonight, found some woods, drove into them and found this little shack. Someone painted all over it, looked cool.

The second picture was the lake front with just a slight reflection of the sun. I couldnt get to the other side of the tree's where the real sun was hiding.

Used my new nikon 14-24mm 2.8 First two pictures I took with it, and quite impressed. Cannot wait to get a day off of work to go photo hunting!!!

The composition on the shack can be a little more dynamic. Perhaps frame towards the left to reveal more of the surrounding.

I do the same thing several times a week. Bring my gear to work and then go out and search for something interesting. I'm assuming both of these are hdr? Correct me if i am wrong btw. Anyway I still haven't quite gotten the hang of it. These are both well processed, at least to my eye.

For the first photo. I like the subject matter and tonal range. I however am not so fond of the position that you have decided to go with. I'm not exactly sure what would have looked better for a composition. Perhaps showing it from straight on would have looked better? Sometimes that can be boring though. I like the stained glass like effect that the limbs of the trees are creating. But I think it may be a bit distracting in this instance. It would be a good topic for a picture on its own, or used in something with a less dominating subject.

The second photo, as I already mentioned has a very nice tonal range. I think I would have tilted the camera up to include more of the sky. To me, the sky in this image is the subject.

Thanks for all the comments. Yea, they are hdr photos I attempted to keep them as low key as possible. I feel like at times I over saturate my HDR's

The position of the first photo was because it was at 14mm. I could have raised the tripod but I just didn't have the eye for this picture lol. Wednesday I plan to hit up a few good spots and see if I can really put this ultra wide to work! !!

Well they look great. How many exposures did you use? also which program did you edit them in? They came out very nice. Most HDR shots just look disgusting.

5 shots of the shack and 4 of the lake. I generally do -2,-1, 0,+1,+2.

I use photomatix for the hdr and generally cs6 for the editing..
