Shadowing?

I have been tossing around the idea of asking a photographer around the area if I could perhaps shadow her every now and then... I think it would be a good experience for me--especially since I'm one of those people who learns best by actually doing something. I have heard other people talk about this kind of thing before. I've always wondered though... Would it be flattering to the other photographer, or offensive? I'm not sure how I would feel if someone asked to follow me around (not that that will be happening anytime soon!) I was just wondering what some of your opinions are on the subject and if any of you have any experiences to share.

I go out with a photo walks group in my city that I found on Flickr. They meet up every couple of weeks for an outing. Great way to talk to other, more experienced photographers. Everyone's happy to share. Check out Flickr and see if there's a group in your area. Alternatively, you could place an add on Craigslist seeking an experienced photographer that uses the same camera you have.
