I don't know why, but whenever I see "It's not the camera, it's the photographer", I get worked up and am inclined to debate.
I do get worked up and inclined to debate. I tried to refrain it in this one. The thing that actually makes me want to go full throttle on this debate is that the same freaking thread is already running. The OP was just too lazy to search for it, and everybody else followed suit.
As a matter of fact, gear matters. No, it's not always the camera. Often times, it is lenses, lighting gear, scribs, gobos, reflectors, etc. Without it, you are looking for an opportunity to take a good shot instead of creating that opportunity.
To each his own, but there are a lot of limitations in a P&S that are not inherent in even a bottom of the line DSLR, much less a pro DSLR.
Sure, ideal condtions, fine...doesn't matter what camera you use. Outside of ideal, the differences start to matter. Some will give up and say that the shot can't be made. Some will upgrade and find that they can take that same shot with a bit of skill. Others will completely surpass all expectations with that gear.
Either way, it comes down to appropriate gear for the situation and the skillset required to make the best of it. Some of us don't do most of our photography in Lollipop land where everything is candy and chocolate...I assure you, equipment does matter.
Again, either way, it doesn't need a second thread running about the same subject, especially when the first response to this thread included the link to the current topic. Pure carelessness on the part of the OP and the moderators.
