I can also say this is one of the worst forums I've ever seen for derailing threads. I really think the moderators need to be more on top of this then they are.

I agree. They should start with just closing threads immediately that are duplicates of threads already running. Then, none of this would have happened.

That would be nice... but The TPF is huge with archives dating back to 2003 with volunteered moderators. As bitter said, this is more like a social thing... its informal and often goes in a tangent. If you expect the OP to have some flexibility in how the thread progresses then you need to be equally as flexible.

I didn't mean to imply that no thread should ever be duplicated. That would be impossible.

It's just that we have two 'active' threads running at the same time that are about the exact same thing. It's simply not necessary, IMO. Heck, it even has some of the same images.

I thought the original intent by the OP was to see photos taken with a P&S not to debate whether we agreed or disagreed with the notion. The premise was to see samples so they can decide for themselves.

Yes ... some of you are too eager to argue... er debate.

There fact that there is a identical thread already running.. totally negates what you just said! They can see the samples in the other thread! (just joining the argument!)

Well, for starters, controversial statements are a trigger of a debate themselves, as well as confrontational ones.

Saying people are too eager to argue, is an instigation of an argument in itself. But that's besides the point.

The opening statement in this thread is a fallacy, whatever the intentions of the thread may be, false information will trigger discussion.

If you really want to start a thread with out controversy, why not say "Post your best shot with a P&S"?

If the thread had been started with

said statement makes no statement of the existance of aliens. IIt neither backs nor denies the statement "aliens exists". It simply asks to post pictures of them with the intent to examine the evidence. The OP opening statement neithet backs nor denies the statement that the gear does not matter which is at the root of your debate... a debate which was neither instigated nor a response requested.

Of all controversies to pick, you pick aliens. You might have been better off using religion as your example lol.

Only those threads that are duplicates of other threads.. or so stupidly inane, that they become catch-all nonsense threads! Gee.. I suspect this on is both!
