Tried taking some pictures w/o looking through the viewfinder today in my backyard and these came out.

Pretty darn good for not looking through your viewfinder. I tried this a couple weeks ago with some good photos.
 
Hard to judge how it worked out from those since I have no idea what you actually wanted to shoot.

The technique for shooting blind is very easy and only takes a little bit of practice. For most people. On a film or FF body, put a 35mm lens. Its wider angle of view allows for leeway in the approximate framing of the shot while giving very little distortion. 2/ pick an aperture to give you a fairly deep DOF. 3/ choose the distance to shoot at and set your focus for that. You're done.

Just remember to shoot things/people who are at you pre-chosen distance.

You may be interested in Pete Eckert - he's a blind photographer who won, amongst many others, the Artists Wanted, Power of Self competition. He had his life paid for for a year and is now being exhibited all over the place.

There's a short film about him at the bottom of the page in the second link I've posted.
