In case you're curious - like the song says: I've been everywhere, man.
I'm an aircraft mechanic, we typically move around a lot. At my current job I had to get a security clearance, on the form you have to fill out (30+ pages), you have to list every address you've had for the last 10 years - I had more than 20...

I think you're being a little over-protective of your gear (especially the tripod). Trust me, it can handle a little snow.

Can handle a little bit of cold also. This is about 6 hours out in 18 F shooting the lunar eclipse last February. That's a cheapie $30 job from Walmart at that.

certainly can, today i did a shoot out at an old mill.. the snow was literally up to my waste... i had my 2 flashes on tripods, one was about 3/4 covered with snow, the other about 1/2 cover, the tripod i was using for the camera was about half covered
