Shooting into the sun at sunset

I took this picture while driving down the canyon. Is there anything I can do to even out the color and exposure?

What do you mean "even out"? To me it looks amazing already. Sure the sun part looks a bit too blown out but it doesn't bother me at all.

A program like Nik Viveza may help if your histogram isnt blown out in the areas you want to adjust. Otherwise you will have needed to bracket more so you have the pixels to work with.

This is the kind of image that I believe HDR works well for. By default, shooting into the sun is either going to result in an over-exposed sun/blob, under-exposed surrounding, or both. Not saying that it is necessarily a bad thing, but HDR technique could improve a good photo in certain situations, IMHO. I like the composition. I don't like skieur's edit... just doesn't look right. The original is better.

I also think the original is quite good; I love the colors and the composition!. In the case of the edit, not good at all...

It was the blown out sun that I thought looked a little off. I guess that's just part of shooting into the sun. I'm wondering if a polarizing filter would have made this picture better or worse?

I like the original. It seems exactly how I would see it if I was driving down the road. If this were my picture, I would be quite pleased to leave it as is.

hey guys, I'm pretty sure that Skieur's edit was a joke meant to point out the folly in the idea of evening out the light when you're shooting into the sun.

I like the original as well. (but I'm waiting for someone to tell you to clone or crop out the highline wires.)
