also, the moon helps ALOT for focusing. So if your lucky enought the moon will be out.

Thats a fantastic tip and I will remember it for the future.
If ok thought I would share a pic I took of a storm a couple of years ago, I used a panasonic DMCFZ-30 to get this, taken in night mode the camera decided what to do and auto focused. The new canon has been a challenge in terms of having to learn and understand photography. I miss the point and shoot camera but am getting better results ith manual modes in other types of photography, just night time that has been a challenge.
