Photos NOT OK to edit
Hey guys,

First post on these forums and looking forward to having many great discussions in the future.

These past few weeks I've done nothing but research about DSLR cameras as I'm looking to purchase my first camera soon.

So I've narrowed it down to the Canon 650D and Nikon 5100D. As stated in the title of the thread, I'm mostly going to be shooting videos and taking photos at night time in the city. I know the Canon 650D vs Nikon 5100D has been done to death but I couldn't find any threads which were specific to my requirements.

This clip is an example of the type of videos I want to shoot.

At the moment I'm slightly leaning towards the Nikon 5100D as the review on Canon 650D vs Nikon D5100 - Our Analysis mentions that the Nikon 5100D has the ability to produce low noise at high ISO which will be really useful for my needs which is to take videos & photos at night time. But in saying that, the touch screen of the Canon 650D does sound very convenient and there are a lot of people out there who prefer the Canon 650D as it is a newer model whereas the Nikon 5100D is one generation behind.

I've gotta head out somewhere now and won't be back until later tonight but I'm looking forward to all the replies and opinions and will take them into consideration when I finally get my first DLSR camera.

Jay~

A minor point:
Nikon puts the D in front - D5100
Canon puts the D in back - 650D

Both cameras are entry-level cameras. While ISO performance has improved in recent years, entry-level cameras are still at the low end of those performance capabilities.

To do quality video with a DSLR requires adding some accessories for camera stability, manual follow-focus, sound recording, etc.
The built-in microphone often record auto focus motor sounds, the rear LCD is pretty small, etc.

My mistake, will remember that from now on.

Thanks for the input KmH, I will be investing a decent amount into accessories as well.

In regards to the 2 cameras, which one would you recommend that would better suit my needs?
