Shots from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

On my way back from Coeur d'Alene this week, I took some time to explore some dirt roads - found some wonderful country, a couple of Moose, Deer galore, and old structures ....

I like the compositions in the images but the lighting is not vary nice. If only they had been taken much earlier or later in the day, they look like they were taken mid day.

Sadly, you're correct. However, when travelling you can't tell the wife ................. "I have an idea - let's sit in this field for another 6 hours so I can take a picture" ..... OK, so I tried - but ......... failed. Hell, she didn't even like the alternatives I had to keep busy for those 6 hours !!!! BTW - do you know that the sun is UP at 5:00AM in Northern Idaho ??? That means it gets light about 4:00 !!! No way in hell I'd get 'sunrise' shots up there!

Yes ...... BIG azz mooses and lots of Deer. Coming into Grangeville, there was a little fawn - still with spots - standing in a gravel pit along side of the road.

You don't have to always be there before re the sun is up or when it goes down. Just closer too those times. It's possible even a couple hours would have been enough, possibly even shorter if clouds had moved in.

I've gotten to the point that if the light is crap and I can't put in the time then I don't even pull out the camera.

Missed it by 2 days !!! - my sister worked on it though .. her company was one of the sponsors. Did you partake?

No I've never raced CdA although I know people that raced it this year.

Some nice locations. I like the image on the left--it shows you have an eye for composition! Nice lead-in line using the fence in the foreground. Yes these could always be improved with the ideal lighting we usually seek at or near the "magic hours" but hey, I COMPLETELY understand about having the wife with you on excursions with photo possibilities!

I'm a full-time professional photographer and my wife is my "assistant" and Photoshop artist and she STILL gets impatient when I leave her in the car while I photograph some photo-op when we're traveling!

Oh, Rick where in Idaho are you? You're the first Idahoan I've encountered here on TPF--we could be neighbors! In addition, I checked-out your flickr images and would like to talk about some of those GREAT locations you've photographed so well. I'm still unfamiliar with much of Idaho.

I'm from Twin Falls - Photog was just a pastime until my retirement in 2011 after 30 years collecting Child Support for the State agency - then I got a travel trailer and just started pulling it around, shooting what I could. I ended up with a website; Becoming a member of the Magic Valley Arts Council; Contributing photographer for the Full Moon Gallery in Twin Falls, and have been published a couple of times. - When my wife is able to retire in 2 years, she'll then be able to travel and become my partner in photography as well. I'd love to introduce you to Idaho and some of the nooks and crannies - are there any photos that you like in particular? - we can discuss locations if you like.
