Hey, im new to live music photography but at the moment im running with only a 50mm 1.8 lens. Im looking to pick up a zoom lens for a decent price, i saw this on ebay but im not sure as ill probably need something with a lower appature 2.8.
Do you guys think this would do until i can afford something new?

Here's the link

Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM FOR NIKON -5057 | eBay

OR should i hold out and look at getting something like this

Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8 Lens NIKON w/Tripod,Filters,+MORE | eBay

Thanks Ben

The second choice is the win IMHO.

those all in one lenses seem great until you get one. often they're soft to the point of being unusable when zoomed in. i'd go with the 70-200mm.

Hi Niz,

Even though the range on the sigma sounds good it will really disappoint you when it comes to photographing musicians. Get the 70-200

Righto that's easy then, ill save more and get the 70-200mm i have read reviews stating that the Sigma 70-200mm lens is capable, has anyone here had one?

I could be wrong (personally not having used the Sigma) but I do believe you'll find better optical performance on the Nikon 80-200mm 2.8 AFD

70-200 f2.8 FTW!!!!!!

Without a doubt I would tell you to hold out for the fixed 2.8 lens. To me its an essential part of any kit regardless of what you shoot. I would only go with variable if you're broke and just want a zoom.
