Should I hire a photographer

but if you delete it of the hard drive, something else will be written on the same sector eventually. I really dont understand why you people telling me why it shouldnt be on the contract.

What if one foregoes the contract, shoots the photographer and burns down the studio after the shoot...sounds safe to me.

I would think that anytime someone has naked photos taken, there is some kind of chance the images will make their way to destinations unwanted by the photoeee.

Always so funny to me when a woman posted something on CL about wanting TFCD for lingerie/nude photos but they dont want the photographer to show the photos to anyone. How the heck am i going to use the photo on my portfolio? Just use the photo in the bathroom for you know what?? LOL

Don't want your n00ds on the interwebz .... don't take them.

It's bound to happen lol

Can't ask a photographer to delete the pictures. By law, they are his property.

I would like the photos to be something that a girlfriend might want to receive as a gift.

Apologies in advance, but I couldn't help thinking of the SNL video below when I saw this...

"eventually" being the functional word there. Another way someone with computer smarts could access the data is if you're like most people who set your computer up to save intermittent system restore points (which is a default with Windows). Lots of way to recover data from a HD. It may look like it's gone, but there's something there. That's assuming someone cares enough to look for it.

If you're that paranoid, you should be more worried about the contract saying "The HD and any other physical media the data are on should be 1) encrypted, 2) password protected, 3) only accessible by the photographer, 4) never to be sent out to a computer repair service, and 4) should be physically destroyed prior to being discarded by the photographer for any reason." That way you can still get prints at a later date if you want them, and the HD can't be sent out to those good-for-nothing recovery techs.

You can assure the information is gone with a 7-pass format. If it is critical, shoot the pics on a separate dedicated SD card. Plug the SD card into your computer and do any PP directly from the SD card without copying them to your computer. Then, when you're done with them, perform a 7-pass format on the SD card. The files will never ever be recovered.

By law.. you follow the agreement contract. WTH??? YOu can say whatever you want on the contract. That's why you need to read them.

mjhoward - I was being sarcastic about what types of measures to go through for ensuring nobody has access to the information if one is so incredibly paranoid. I think asking the photographer to erase the files is over the top in the first place - just hire a photographer you know and trust. I like the 7-pass idea though!

I have multiple backups in two different locations and on the rare occassion that I've lost a drive, I've made sure that the information was either completely wiped from the drive (I have a person that does this that I trust completely) or I've destroyed the drive myself beyond it ever being able to be booted up again. I take the privacy of my clients extremely seriously. Not one single image has gotten out unless I've released it with a signed release from the client in the 20 years that I've been doing this. Bottom line, hire a professional that specializes in this type of work.

And yet I see posts on internet a lot where people recover nude pics on hard drives. When your hard drive goes bye bye and you dont have a back up, what do you do? Dont tell me you just send your HD to get recovered with full of private photos. I promise you one of these punks who work for the data recovery companies will leak the photos.

you need to hire somebody you'll feel comfortable with (male or female.. not sure). You need a contract that says that the photographer will ERASE everything when you have the product. Mohamein does a lot of studio photos.. I dont.

This is partially right and partially not. Finding someone that you're feeling comfortable is a big thing. Erasing the images - not so much. I do several hundred boudoir and dudoir sessions a year and archive for a period of time. My clients are grateful as they know that they can come back during that time for extra prints or albums. My reputation is sterling and never EVER have I had problems with images making their way to the internet or public without me posting it to my blog or site WITH a signed model release by the client. No release, no one outside of my studio and lab ever see the images.

usmcvma - if you're interested, I'll be in San Antonio in January speaking at the Digital Wedding Forum Convention and will be available for a very limited number of sessions.
