Should I push?

I would go with the fuji. I own it and I love it. Before i bought it I read about no image stabilization and was kinda nervous. But, after I started shooting with it I've taken pics with all the optical zoom out and 80% of my pictures are good. So, I know they could be better but It's not too bad. The batteries are so so. I can get alot of pictures on a set of batteries. But, I still carry three extra sets with me at all times. I have four sets of rechargeables that I rotate (MiMH) and I keep two sets of lithiums with me. So, I've never really had any issues. If you do buy rechargeables invest in a good charger, one that discahrges them and conditions them. You'll pay more up front but your batteries will last a long time. I pick AA over proprietory battey packs for the reason you can buy AA's anywhere. I'm pretty sure you can buy zoom lens that will attach onto the existing lens also. There are these little grooves that look like they would snap on. I think this camera has a decent amount of manual settings to learn but it doesn't have all of them, at the same time it doesn't cost $400. I would get it. Good luck with your choice. And one more thing, alot of people complain about the lens cover being loose and I think they did that for a reason. First off mine has nver fallen off and it's loose so you don't have to waste time taking it off. When you power up the lens comes out and pushes it right off, and you never have to touch it. I also recommend getting the fastest and largest sd card you can afford, that's a given.
