18-55 ,the primary Nikon lens
I have both the 18-55 II and 18-55 VR

It is a real wide-angle lens and does well in scenic photography.
The middle-angle focal is suitable for lots of everyday scenes
A noob may get used to classical focal lengths e.g. 35MM,28MM,and 50MM which are loved by many photography masters by using the 18-55 lens.

The main disadvantage:
The aperture is not big enough

AF 24-85 D (not AF-S 28-85G)

A FX lens with microspur function when the focal length is set to 85MM

It has got a bit aperture of F2.8 when the focal length is set to 24MM,so it's pretty possible to master the depth of field within all the focal lenths.

Not counted as a primary lens though not a high-end one either.

Its optical quality exceeds all the 18-serial primary lens e.g. 18-55，18-105，18-200, though not so excellent as some fixed focus lens.

And it doesn't provide as much "Nikon flavour" as some other famous Nikon lens.

This lens is suitable for portrait ,humanistic ,and microspur photography.

SIGMA APO 70-300

Another FX lens with microspur function

Actually it is not an original Nokon factory lens but it could be connected to a Nokon SLR body and performs as well as Nikon 18-serial lenses.

The main advantage:
looks long enough with the lens hood
So you look quite professional when shooting with it.
This lens is suitable for portrait and microspur photography.

Now comes the fixed focus lenses.

AF 24MM / F2

A FX lens

The color of pix shot by this one is a little bit dismal ,and the distortion due to the focal length is pretty annoying in portrait.

But this lens is very suitable for humanistic photography since it has the focal length that many masters loved and large aperture provides enough choices when controlling the depth of field.


Someone who loves this lens could be an experienced photographer.

35MM/F1.8G DX

Pretty good in optical quality, and the pix shot by it are bright and beautiful though not with enough traditional "Nikon flavour" .

It is suitable for portrait since the the distortion is not so serious.

One of my favourites.

AF 50MM/F1.8 D

This lens represents the quintessence of Nikon Lenses.

It has got perfect control in distortion ,amazing resolution ratio,and the authentic "Nikon flavour".
This lens reminds me that the great works of the predecessors who were used to Nikon cameras are all of this flavour.

The combination of the focal length and the aperture has been so perfect that controlling the depth of field has been as easy as overturning your own palm.

This lens is very suitable for portrait and humanistic photography.
