Sigma 18-35 1.8 thoughts?

Has anyone used this lens and if so what are your thoughts on it? I was thinking it would be better to get this one over the Nikon 35 1.8. Does it perform well and is it as sharp? Also, my Sigma 10-20 does not have a manual/auto focus switch on it. How about this one? Also, what is its diameter and weight?

Finally, does anyone know if Sigma will ever put out a 16-35 1.8?

I am also curious about how the zoom lens compares to the prime lens when both are at 35mm range. If they are almost exactly identical, then obviously the zoom seals the deal. But is it?!

Not personally...Wanted one,but was not going to pay over the $800 retail for it..Images are beyond sharp..The reviews are out there on youtube..I ended up getting the Nikkor 28mm 1.8g instead...

I have one and love it, I can't fault it but I have heard some have had to use the USB dock to correct front focus issues.

i love mine but then again the lens i owned prior to this was a kit lens... images super sharp little noise at 18mm f1.8

the lens is designed for an aps-c sensor camera i used it with my t5i and have 0 problems with focusing

16-35 is not on the books at this time. If they could have squeeze an extra 2mm they would have if they could keep the price point the are looking for.

Well, you don't have to, I haven't and the results are fantastic. I bought it in store and had the opportunity to test it first, if it had of exhibited any problems I would have either asked for another or for the staff to calibrate it using their dock. (What I should have done was negotiate a price for the lens and dock, but I wasn't thinking straight - I was too excited about getting the lens)

I've had this lens for a couple of months and it's pretty nice. I've not used my nifty-fifty or pancake 40 since I've had it.
he build quality is great and for a crop sensor like my T4i it's reasonably wide. Kind of a short focal range but other than that fast and sharp.
It does autofocus but no stabilization. It's quiet so good for video.
If you check YouTube you'll find a lot of reviews on it.

If you plan on sticking with crop sensors then you would be a fool not to get this lens. It beats the hell out of the competition with both price and quality.

After reading all the reviews in the internet and watching all the youtube reviews I ordered a copy today but is back-ordered . I read about some AF issues in some early copies but some have corrected the issues with camera settings and using the USB dock. Check for reviews and comments in dpreview.com.

most all fast lenses require some fine tune even cannikon...the dock isn't REQUIRED either, if your body can do AF fine tune, then you can do it that way (the same way you would with a Nikon/canon lens)...the dock, however adds functionality that no Nikon/canon lens offers such as being able to fine tune across various zoom lengths, as well as focus distances (as well as tuning other things like OS functionality, and switch modes depending on what lens you're tuning), not to mention the fact that it gives that functionality to bodies who do not have the ability to AF fine tune such as the D5xxx and D3xxx series...

FWIW Ive got the 35 1.4 Art lens from sigma and it is one of the only lenses I have ever used that needs NO fine tuning across the entire focal range...I've got a 18-35 on order for my D800e (yup, that's right), and I can comment on that once it actually shows up, but since I don't have it yet I can't say for sure, but I expect it be a great lens, though I'm betting it'll require at least a little AF tuning at some settings (and I already own the dock which is a fantastic tool IMO, wish it worked with Nikon lenses).....but if you're not wanting to deal with AF tuning altogether, you'd better steer clear of every AF fast lens from any manufacturer.
