Sigma makes DSLR's?

Sigma's MP claims are a bit convoluted because the Foveon image sensor has 3 layers of pixels.
But because of the way the Foveon image sensor works, many of the pixels don't get used.

The top layer can 'see' all three RGB colors. The middle layer can't 'see' blue light, because all the blue light is absorbed by the top layer.
the middle layer 'sees' green and red light.
The bottom layer can only 'see' red light, because the top and middle layers absorb all the blue and green light.

I had never heard of the DP cameras until this thread but some quick googling and I'm thinking if you are into landscape photography or even perhaps portraits, these cameras might serve you well. You can read a Luminous Landscape review here with lots of sample shots and crops of them. The detail is stunning.

Its really a shame that Sigma isn't doing more to release dslr's. They have only two available on their website.

Give Sigma more times. If Foveon is really that good they claim to be, their dslr lineup will grow.

I used to fly for a company that used gimbal/gyro mounted SD1 Merrils for aerial photography. I remember they were very solidly made and produced some pretty impressive images. I can't find any of our images made with the Sigma (we switched to Nikon) but here's a few other examples: Pixel-Peeper

I wouldn't be surprised if Sigma starts coming out with some seriously impressive DSLRs soon to go with their incredible line-up of new high-end lenses they've been turning out lately. I would consider one if the price was realistic.

They made a mighty fine DSLR too. Nothing but love for my E-450. Since they've stopped making DSLRs for the time being, looks like my next camera will be an OM-D EM1 someday in the distant future.

I wish I could just have a digital OM-1. I love this camera so much, I'd kill if it wasn't so damn expensive and time consuming to operate. Not sure Olympus has the following to successfully market a manual focus manual only DSLR camera.. on Leica can get away with that.

On topic, the SD1 Merril's are really impressive, despite not really being 46mp (more like 15) the image sensor is great. Really, they are in a similar boat with Pentax... great cameras but some features just not up to the caliber of Canon/Nikon (such as AF for example)... just need to keep staying alive on lens sales and with some more R&D... I could easily see full frame Sigmas competing with the "big boys" in the next few years. I'd love to see that actually. Heck, I'd have my mounts converted and jump ship for a full-frame foveon with a decent burst rate and some 50+ point autofocus system (can't live without it now...)
