I have a few Sigma EX lenses and have never that a problem with image quality. But some of their lenses are not dumbly proof, broke one because I did not disengage the auto-focus before removing the lens from the camera.

If I recall correctly Sigma DSLR only write in RAW format

Matt had a good point about your photo quality being determined by you, not the camera/lenses. But like I said before, why buy a plasticy, breakable body when you could buy a 'name brand' sturdier one for about the same price? seems like a no brainer.

Sigma lenses on the other hand can be very good (their EX series of lenses are the best to check out), so I would definitely look into those if you're trying to save money a bit.
