Interesting concept, but I think the outline of the plant is not interesting enough to shoot it like that. My first thought looking at the photo was: Where is the detail in the plant? And then I got what your idea was.
I would also get rid of the the other plants that are coming in from the bottom of the photo. They are distracting. Or maybe it's just me liking a "clean" photo If you don't want to photoshop them, you can try to work with your angle, or zoom in a little bit more.
Good attempt at isolation. I would pay attention to where the sun light is at. The age is in the shade and needs proper fill in light to pull this difficult shot off. I like how you are thinking about composition and the creative side of image making. Good job!
