Assuming that you are using JPG and that your photos are on average 6MB each you should be able to fit around 750 on a single layer DVDR. Double this figure if you are using a double layer DVDR.

6 mb each??? WHAT? Are the files really that big on a rebel? I use a 5d and mine are only 4mb

The size of each image can vary greatly. Just look at a list of your shots and you will see the range.
