Siver Spotted Skipper and a Monarch

[jcdeboever]

End of days for the butterfly's but a few still hanging around. Mostly these, monarchs, and white cabbage.

Nice. Monarchs are so special, they even fly differently than other butterflies.

The colors in that monarch shot are beautiful. Really well done.

Stunning shot of the Skipper. The other is a Viceroy not a Monarch. They are similar but the line across the hind wing is a field mark for the Viceroy. I'm not an expert... I've made the same miss-identification myself and thus learned the difference. Here's a link about the comparison Monarch or Viceroy?

I just watched a video on Youtube about the Monarch and its migration. A pro made 45 minute show on the couple that spent 40 years tracking down where the monarchs fly to in Mexico on a few little mountain tops. Millions of them from around the USA. Great story and videos. Search on monarch butterflies. I guess you should find it.

When I was a kid, you always saw monarchs. today, I rarely see one.

I have a picture of one tagged. It has an email address and 800 number.

What are the tags made from and how do you imprint the info?

They look like a small round sticker. I uploaded the image via email that was on the sticker, stating the location info. I got a response quickly thanking me and they were going to send me info on where it has been. I will upload the image tonight when I get home.

Here you go @AlanKlein
It was tagged at the University of Kansas. I will also follow up on the data of flight when I get it.

Nice job. I never knew they could tag one!

Thanks my main man. Neither did I. Thanks for sharing the experience with me my brother from another mother.

The tag is interesting. Do you have to prep the monarch or just stick it on?
