My photography career is over before it started. i failed at the pinnacle of action sports photography. kids sledding.

shutter speed 250. oops. who would have thunk they would have got going so fast.
Not to worry. The other shots i noticed before hand and bumped it up.

...far from failure,dude!!1 yr,5 yrs,10 yrs,3o yrs from now,you captured a moment.No one can take that away from you!

beyond that....have them keep running up the hill,to slide back down, practice some panning technique, you'll be rewarded with both, experience, and tired kis after you feed them at the end of the day. ;)

I wonder if you bumped it up far enough. I shot sledding at 1/3200 to 1/8000 of a second at 12 frames per second with high dynamic range turned on in camera.

highest i went was 1/800. But i was panning them on the way down or at the bottom with them coming toward me so that could have made the difference. Biggest problem i had from the side was like this one. trying to keep them in the frame so i could snap the photo..View attachment 68389 And i probably should have been even higher on the shutter.

Less than ideal background, but you get the idea. He was just starting into the air.

Practice, practice, practice, panning and keeping the subject in frame was the most difficult thing for me when I started photographing birds in flight, couldn't guess at how many shots had the subject either entering or leaving the frame, worst part, I didn't know until after I'd developed the film.

And i probably should have been even higher on the shutter.

Looking at your last shot shutter speed looks to be fast enough, it is a matter of framing.

Fun shots! Maybe not wall hangers, but keepers for completely different reasons

These are underexposed and far too cool. Are you using al servo focus mode? I would use your center point focus (al servo), shoot wide and crop to the composition you need later. My fave is #2 where you can see the snow flying up. :D
