Smokey Acadia Coast

Went for a drive Saturday with the wife and kid, stopped here for a bit to take some pics. Need to spend more time in Acadia, it's only an hour and a half away.

Number 3 is my favorite, although they all are nice. I have only been there once, but have some good shots also, less the effects. There are also some inner island photo ops that are great.

I like #1 the best. I am not 100% sold on the smokey water look. I think it's cool but doesn't convey the intensity and power of the ocean.

I too like #1 the most. The vignette on the second one appears just a little too dark for my preference. The location though....OMG...love,love,love those rocks! I thought the speed used in #2 was a very good speed to show just the right amount of movement, but the waves are pretty tame, so they are not really very dramatic. Of course dramatic also often means small craft advisory class winds too, so...it's almost summer...waves are usually pretty calm.The Oregon coast looks much the same this week...gray,cloudy skies, small surf, small waves... I have heard this described by Californians as the "June gloom" look.

The vignette was untouched, just a combination of the lens and the filter. Heavy I know.

The rocks were my favorite part. This particular stretch does get some serious wave action in the spring and fall.

Acadia looks so amazing, I'm jealous that you live so close Runnah. I leave friday for a 3 week camping trip in Phippsburg but I'm planning on a trip to Acadia while I'm up there, but it's still another 3 hours away or so. Nice work

Well it's a bit of a tradeoff, close to the park but far away from anything else. Like jobs that pay well, people with education...

I could deal with it. Sounds like unspoiled landscapes and dark skies for shooting at night to me

RE: the vignette effect....yeah, you know, lately I have started becoming more and more and more aware of how very much light fall-off "some" lenses seem to have on digital sensors...and I have started to very critically evaluate the Adobe lens correction profiles, since I shoot some with fairly old Nikkors that are not in the list of lens correction pre-sets in my Lightroom, so maybe I am a bit too focused on light fall off. But for example, I got a new 80-200 f/2.8...and MAN, that thing has STEEP fall off at the corners, the very corners...but not at the 8x10 aspect captures...whatever lens you shot #2 with seems to have very dramatic fall-off...so much that it looks "added". Are you positive that much fall-off is from the lens entirely, or could some of it be from the Adobe rendering? Just wondering...

Oh it is. Where I live there is little or no light pollution.

Yup, I just looked and no added vignetting. With the 17-40mm f/4 @ 17mm it does have that heavy vignetting, add the 10 stop ND filter and it only adds to the fall off. The second and third photos weren't at @ 17mm i think 25mm and 40mm respectively.

Here you can see below where i used photoshop's raw to fix lens issues option. Dramatic difference. I think I kept the original because it added to the gloom of the day.
