What's new

So, I took it out of Auto..

Why, well, honestly.. At times I get so fluttered. I don't use my camera. In fact, just before I posted here I was trying to get my 2010 photo album. I am surprised to see I didn't take any pictures from June until Oct of this year. So, I forgot how to use it. I posted earlier this month that I went to Dinsneyland and was trying to figure out how to get my camera to do something.. and it took me a while to figure it out. I have to admit.. Last night I read the post.. got fluttered and got out all my books.. and started reading.. I don't understand it.. so I am reading again.. I may have to read it a few times. I also asked my Dad for help. He understand "it." Thank you all-- I used my camera today... I thought it would be easier to use a smaller lens.. a 50mm and play with the f stop. I am having trouble figuring out what AV and TV is on my camera-- I will read that chapter again.
Sunny, from almost a year ago you wrote:

I shot mostly in Manual and AV. I think at this point I like Manual better.

Why did you go back to auto?!?

Not sure what books you have but do you have the book "Understanding Exposure" ? The newest addition is laid out with a chapter each for the various parts of exposure and has exercises to help you learn. My suggestion is to read a page or chapter on a specific subject (ISO, shutter speed or aperture) in whatever book you have with your camera in your hand and play around with the setting that is being mentioned in what you're reading.

The other thing which is most important is that you make sure your camera is set up to work "normally". By this I mean that nothing is on exposure compensation or spot metering where the spot is off to one side; make sure everything is set up on a regular setting. The notebook idea is a great idea along with taking a photo with fully auto and getting the info to duplicate it in manual.

When I get unharsh feedback.. I just want to put the camera away and not use it.

I won't be sharing.. You're right I don't get it.. and I have read all the books.. I just don't get it. I have no idea if I ever will.

I really thought these pictures were a vast improvement.. oh,well, I am happy with my slow progress, very slow progress..

You and you alone must be satisfied unless you are shooting for someone else's request.

Some of the greatest artists were flat out rejected by their peers. Do not put much stock in what others say. For every critique there is an opposite. Lighter, darker, whiter, same as the light color etc.

There is nothing wrong with your photos yet after 30 years of practicing photography I could provide a mile long list of critique for each of them. The trick for me is to size up my audience when critiquing their photo and provide just the correct amount of nudge in the right places. Or if the case may be a very rough and brutal critique if the party can handle that level of picking apart.

Don't worry your photos are wonderful. But I'm sure you will see flaws per your own eyes taste.

sobo,

Funny you say that.. I actually like photos that are a tad over exposed... I see C&C on pictures for over exposure and think... Isn't it a personal prefrence. I love, when don't right over exposed photos.

The books I have are Understanding exposure, 7D for dummies, and 7D field guide.

We should trade cameras. D3000 for 7D lol

This forum is full of amateurs and professionals so if you're new to photography expect a large level of criticism. But then realise that you're getting criticism from some extremely talented people who have been doing this for years. You're getting information that is essentially worth a lot of money for free. Take it in, experiment around the house.
