Soaking SD Card

When I washed my camera bag, I accidentally left my SD card in one of those pockets. It got soak. Surprisingly, I inserted the SD card in my computer and the files are still there.

Same goes with my USB drive. I left it in my pocket of my pair of pants. Took my pants to the washer. Took the USB out and plugged it to my computer. All my files are still in there.

Has anyone done the same mistake as I did?

People have found cameras that were dropped into rivers & oceans years ago, pulled the cards from 'em and recovered the images.

I've never laundered any memory cards, but I sure wouldn't use it after that.

Just about every photographer I know has washed a card in the laundry at some point. I've never heard of it ruining a card though.

If a wet card were put in a camera, could that short the camera?

Yeah that's happened to a lit of USB drives of mine.

My cf cards full of wedding photos got submerged in saltwater while doing trash the dress session. Dried them and they all said card error .




Then I was like.. wtf... i got nothing to lose... Grabbed a cup of water, filled it up with fresh water, submerged the cards for 10 minutes, shaked it, dried it... everything was good LOL. Almost had a heart attack. Luckily I had an insurance so I was not as freaked out.
