Back to the most posted subjects on this forum, bird shots :). These are some random bird shots I took this weekend, help with ID of #1 requested. I've seen these before, but don't know the name. Also help in IDing #5 will be appreciated, we couldn't ID it in my earlier thread.

The weather was a little cloudy, so sorry for the noisy images. Most of them were shot at 400 ISO, and anything above 200 ISO gets noisy in my camera. :(
Critique & comments welcome. :)

aha a parrot :) My time to shine! It is a corella. This was a captive animal? If not it is an escaped pet as they are not native to your area. Species would be Cacatua goffiniana if I had to guess, though there is a similar species that would be hard to distinguish by the photos. It is less likely to be in captivity there though ;)

Great pics Raj :) That sunbird is beautiful.

Well, I learned a new bird fact today. I saw this picture and thought, "oh, that's some kind of Cockatoo." Then I saw Daniel's response, and he clearly seemed to know what he was talking about. So I googled Corella--turns out cockatoos are known as corellas in Australia. It would be pretty cool to see wild Cockatoos/Corellas--I've only seen them as captive pets.

Raj--I really like the Sunbird and the Myna; cool birds!

haha yep :) Well the term corella only refers to a subgenus of white cockatoos known as Licmetis in Aus. You couldn't correctly call one of the other white cockatoos a corella, but you could call a corella a cockatoo. Simple ey :p

Yes anywhere else in the world you would just lump these species with the other white cockatoos :)

Raj I just love that Sunbird in your collection. Have been trying to get a good pic of him like yours since long.

Great Shots all of them

Great shots. #5 looks like it could be a red shouldered hawk?

Thank you so much Daniel for the insight. I bet I needed a specialist for the ID on this one. It is a Tanimbar Corella, I've updated the original post, and yes it was a captive bird. For some reason I felt he was happy to see me, he was pretty much alone & ignored in that cage. I never ever ever like it when birds are in a cage. :(
I once freed an entire group of Budgerigar from the cage in my friends house, he still has no idea that I'd done it. :p

Gotta go with 2 and 4 as my favorites here. Great stuff as usual Raj

Thank you so much for the nice words guys, your comments are always appreciated. :D
And the sunbird is really something, isn't it? :)

Prabhjeet, I've also been trying to a get a good shot at them for some time. Finally got this opportunity in front of a girls hostel. Right behind the bird was a girls hostel, and I was really hoping that the guard or the girls don't come out. A young man taking pictures of a girls hostel really could have created a wrong impression, and I had to leave fast before I could take any more shots :(

I'm pretty sure that's not it. In fact after an hour of research, I think it is the Milvus migrans (black kite), the entire confusion started with this bird, which I was certain to be the asian black kite. I'll ask in my indian bird forum and respond back. Thanks for the comment :)

OK! I can see that!!! It's so hard to ID some of these birds, especially when it's not the best angle or best color! Nevermind the differences among each individual bird!

Yup! The former is the Asian black kite, and the later is the crested serpent eagle. Now I can sleep in peace

Very nice! I also like the mynah and the sunbird.
