Hello guys :)

I have a Sony Alpha 300, and I'm just wondering, if a D3100 is really worth getting? Excluding the video capability. I know my model is much older, but is there any significantly difference between the two?

Thanks in advance.

Ps: Sorry for that I have made my first post here. I'm not a forum type person :o I just really need help on this.

A significant difference is - one is made by Sony, and the other is made by Nikon.

You can download the Nikon D3100 user's manual at www.nikonusa.com and compare your a300 user's manual info with the Nikon D3100 user's manual info.

Sony cameras use an odd-ball, non-industry standard, flash hot shoe design they inherited when they bought Konica/Minolta's camera division back in 2006. In other words, Sony has only been making cameras for 5 years, and most of their cameras are just continued development of Konica/Minolta cameras.

Nikon has been making optics since 1917, and introduced their first camera in 1948.

... and Nikon uses Sony sensors (with the exception of D3100, apparently).

At least Sony makes Nikon's image sensors for Nikon. Nikon designs their own image sensors, Sony just does the manufacturing to Nikon specifications.

Did you know that Sony uses Nikon made steppers to do the photolithography necessary to make all their's and Nikon's chips? Stepper - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
