Sony DSC-V1

Hi,

Maybe someone has an idea about this....

My friend has a Sony DSC-V1, when he presses the power button to switch it on the lens starts to zoom and the dust shutter on the front partially opens, then it closes and retracts then opens the retracts ad infinitum.

Any one know what could be causing this? He is about to put it in for repair to a local dealer (it is no longer under warranty), but I said I would check here first in case there is a quick fix before he does.

check the battery and the battery contacts. This is classic symptom of low battery charge or dirty contacts. Good luck.

No such luck unfortunately. I tried it with the battery out and the power cable in and it still does the same trick

Jessops (local dealer) quote £175 to fix it.

I take it there is some way to remove the lens make sure the actual lens contacts are clean, there seems to be a little button just inside the rim of the lens.
