Sony Flash Compatibility W/ Off Brand Flashes

I currently own the sony HVL-F56AM hot-shoe flash and I was wondering if anyone knows if it would work with remote setup off brand hot-shoe flashes like Sigmas. What I mean by this is will my Sony on camera flash trigger these off brand flashes and will my current flash trigger them because I know with Sony there is a set amount of light that triggers them.
