I was wondering if it was your lumber; did you mill it yourself?

I was wondering if it was your lumber; did you mill it yourself?

I was cutting the Elm for firewood & selected some to cut up for making small projects & sawed them up on my band-saw.

What are those dark spots, and will they sand out?

That is saw burn as the blade was entering the cut in a wedge angle. It will sand out as I allowed for some clearance to the finished line of the taper to the point where the column will meet the feet.
