Sound activates camera

Is there any way I can sound activate my D90? I want to take photo of smashinh things with a hammer and that the sound will activate the camera thus giving me the ideal sync with the camera.

considering the physics of it, you'd be better off to work off a light or motion trigger.

Sound actuallly doesn't travel very fast, So it would most likely end up firing a fraction of a second too late...

With sound triggers, timing is often done by placement of the microphone. At 768 MPH (1125 FPS, which is 13500 inches per second) the delay from a microphone is about 1/1000th of a second per ft of distance between mic and sound emitting object.

The sound trigger is very easy to build. I hope that helps.
