It was still worth it though! :-P

Well, at least something good came out of it  I'm still not giving up, I've ordered a CF card reader ( I didn't have one, and was using the cable to transfer the images), and will give it a try again. :)

Today was one of those days where everywhere I turned I found something worth shooting, I took such variety of pictures today and was soooo happy. I can not believe that after spending 5 damn hours in the zoo, I come back to find that all the files in the CF card are somehow corrupted. And I probably took some of my best photos till date! So this is what hopelessness feels like .
Luckily for me I kept my SX50 with me, and took a few pictures on it occasionally. At least I have something to show for my work.

Now you know how it feels to have shot half a roll of film with the lens cap on, or the WHOLE roll (of color) with a yellow filter on, or accidentally opened the back of the camera with film still in it. Or everything in the camera went well but you effed up development and ended up with a long empty film strip where your pictures should have been.

I'm not speaking from experience at all, nope, not me!

Sorry about your corrupted card!:At least you don't have your own foolishness to blame ;)

Don't worry, Raj, it happens. I went to a nature preserve. Got some fantastic shots of some snakes. Wanted to look at them and... no card. FAIL.

I'm sure it never happened to you ;) Somehow I'm just glad that I don't shoot film :lmao:

This is true. And I had a film camera with me. But yeah, that's gotta hurt.

Dang you!!!
I have not check back in for a while, so I've spent all week mad about this!!! LOL
So glad you got it!:)

Pix and everyone else who donated,
I just chimed in here, and I am flabbergasted at the generosity you guys have shown. It really is uplifting to see that this kind of compassion still exists. Thank you for sharing this, and I hope everyone can pay it forward. Pix, if there are any outstanding expenses that you have incurred that have not been covered, I would be happy to pick up the tab for them.

From a pharmacy? I'll try that before ordering then, why do they keep that?

They are for cleaning out ears with various solutions. Should look something like this:

I got mine for less than a dollar.

Well, I showed up at the local pharmacy (actually a few of them) with this picture, and they had no clue. They did suggest me to talk to the local rickshaw pullers, they use something similar as a honking tool.

All righty folks! I know you people have been patiently waiting for my dslr pics, and I apologize to keep you all waiting (& for the very long post). I finally took a half day leave from work and took these shots at the local zoo. Most of these shots were taken behind the nets of the cages, my sx50 could never focus properly in these shots, and always ended up focusing on the cage. Manual focus is sooooo much better. I was enjoying it so much that I didn't use AF at all. I can honestly say that the camera has improved my photography by some margin already.

This will most likely be the concluding post of this remarkable and a rather eventful story, and I would like to conclude it with my sincere thanks to all the people who made this possible. Irrespective of what photography gears I own in the future, these will always be the most special to me. :hail:

I've already said everything that can be said, but my thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Pix, Sharon, David, Todd, Bill,Tom, Warren, Lew & to Mr. M & Mr. W :D for making this possible and to Barbara, Stig, Vince, Steve, Irfan, Danny & Kathy for offering to chip in for me; and to so many others for rooting for me. It was a very unique experience I will never forget the support you guys have shown me. :sillysmi: Also I finally managed to prove to my mom that this wasn't a scam, so that's another achievement! :lmao:

Without further adieu, I present to you the long awaited (horrible) pictures I've taken. I know you guys were expecting more, but I'll keep posting in new threads as I improve .

I know I didn't take enough pictures using your lens Jason, so here are a few taken with your 24-70mm ( I soooo hope you like it). And please do convey my gratitude to Mrs. Pix, and let me know what she thinks of these (that is if you see my post in the first place ).

#1. The Kitty kingdom

#2. The hAtman - I screwed up on the exposure here (as I do with my street shots) and had to increase the exposure by 2 stops in LR.

#3. The national bird of India - Indian Male-Peafowl

And these pics were taken using the telephoto lens sent by Sharon. Again thank you so much Sharon, the extra reach was most helpful :D :

#5. The Alpha - It almost drowned another pelican by holding its neck and forcing it to remain underwater. It wasn't a pleasant sight, I do have a few oof images.

That's it folks, let me know what you guys think of these. :)

Also I finally managed to prove to my mom that this wasn't a scam, so that's another achievement! :lmao:

:lmao: I hadn't thought about THAT aspect!! "No, really, mom. These people over in America, they're offering to just send me a FREE camera, and lenses. I think they also said something about an uncle who died and left them 112 bazillion dollars, and they need a little help getting the money. Since they're such nice people, sending me a camera and what not, I went ahead and gave them my bank information. They're going to put all 112 bazillion in my account, and then they only want me to transfer HALF of it to them in some Swiss account. That leaves 56 bazillion dollars for ME!!….Mom?? Why don't you believe me??"

Your photos are really nice! I especially like #3 with the 24-70 and #1, 3 and 4 with the Sigma zoom. I can tell you that you are *already* getting better results with that zoom than I *ever* got!

I'm just SO glad that I was able to contribute that lens to such a good cause, and a delightful person! Seeing it result in such good pictures is really just icing on the cake! Only thing I ask is that if I ever get to India--or you to my area of the States--we'll meet and have a cup of coffee/tea.

well, im glad to see your mom finally has the proof she needs that this wasn't an American scam.
as long as the shipping took though, i can see why she was skeptical.

It is a little too much to believe TBH, so I don't really blame her. 56 Bazillion $s would be nice though, I could get myself a home in Tanzania

You truly flatter me Ma'm, and this coming from a master photographer like you (especially your flower macros) .. Thank you so much.

Make that a lunch, and it's my treat :D.. Let me just check my visa status ;)
Seriously though, you're always invited and I'll even be your guide in Kolkata. :)

She wasn't really skeptical, rather certain that it was a scam
She just wouldn't believe that some folks in some distant country would send a camera (&lenses) to a kid they haven't even met. It is a little hard to believe I would say! :lmao:
