Speeding up workflow, SSD's and External drives

I don't do anything fancy in Photoshop or Lightroom. Moving to SSD for program and initial photo storage for post processing was a major leap in speed. But, by far, going from a single-processor 3.2ghz clock to 64-bit quad processor at 4.1ghz made all the difference in the world. As Garbz said above, "it's a processor issue".

Both photoshop and Lightroom to a zillion calculations for each change you make to a picture. For me, the wait time to 'see the result(preview)' has gone from 5-10 seconds to near instantaneous!
