I DOES have a certain "pencil drawing quality" to it...it's a delicate image, without a huge amount of detail...it's a "scene"...a "moment"...an "illustration".

I think that both versions are pleasing to look at. In a way, I actually like the original image with the branches at the top, which makes it seem like you were actually there, underneath trees that are aligned in a row, or next to one another...the branches also show a little bit of color fringing--a sort of photographic clue, or a camera lens signature, and because of those two things, I actually think I prefer the original image to the revised one. Still, both are lovely to look at. I like these types of delicate, fleeting, natural world photos.

An awesome image!

It is really a fine image with the branches removed. Bravo!

Have you tried any tinting? That could be interesting.

Thanks, everyone! Fortunately, I had a little time to do some quick test shots to get the exposure down and pre-set the focus (manual lens), before these birds took off. Also, I discovered that in this extreme backlighting, the Cosina had crazy PF until f5.6, so all this prep consumed maybe 3 minutes before I was actually ready to shoot. That Sony sensor in the K-3 just does a super job in extreme light.

Nice indeed and not something you see every day.

Thanks! Here's an update- I decided to try a large print of this, and that caused me to pixel peep some more. Although I had previously taken care of most the PF, the bird's wings have a lot of blue fringing around them. LR5 took care of this problem quite handily, by simply turning down the blue saturation and luminance, totally eliminating the problem. Mpix made me a 16X20, and it looks super! 8-)
