Still trying to get my Tamron 150mm-600mm dailed into my D3s

I've been fine tuning my D3s with the Tamron. Still not quite there.

iso400 600mm f/6.3 1/400sec

iso400 600mm f/6.3 1/400sec

iso 250 600mm f/8 1/400sec

iso640 220mm (heavy crop) f/10 1/1000sec

iso1100 600mm f/10 1/1000sec

They are looking pretty good. Hard to tell from web size, but judging by the last one maybe +1 or 2 more should shift the focus plane a touch further back. Have you given it a good run on the D7100? It should resolve more detail than on the D3S.

Thanks I'll try that adjustment. No I haven't done much with the 7100. I'm not a big fan of the 7100, the focus seems slow to me. Plus the feel compared to the D3s is just not right.

I have shot the D3S and I know what you mean. Here is something I do in the field (or standing on the road) to check fine tune... I call it the GR method Nikon SLR Lens Talk Forum Digital Photography Review

They look good to me. The 4th being a heavy crop is the real test to me. Most of my shots that I find unacceptable are because they won't stand up to cropping.

Let me know if you want to take the 7200 for a few days, with the way work has been going i am having a hard time getting out. And that last shot is real nice, and I'd agree with Kris+1 or +2 would be worth a try.

Is Fine Tuning variable dependent upon Focal Length and Subject Distance ?

I was zooming in to some pictures and set my Fine Tune on my d7000 and Tamron 150-600 to a -1.
I'm going to run this test on my d600 too.
