Story in Progress

Went to a local high school baseball game tonight with the intent of shooting some high action shots...only to discover the lighting was horrid, at best. I did make a major boo-boo by leaving on the 1.7 converter atop the 70-200 2.8 which cost me at least two stops. I ended up shooting at ISO 6400 EV +2, and giving it nearly a 2 stop boost in RAW. Did all kinds of noise reduction in RAW and in CS6, though trying to maintain some decent sharpness.

The noise is evident, but what I like about this shot is the progression of each component doing its part as a spectator would expect, though not many get to see it from this angle. For me, it read as a story.

The location of the ball in that shot makes it look like the batter is taking a whiff at thin air which is actually cool and give the shot one of the most desirable things in a photo...it's interesting to me so I like it. I lack the expertise to critique any of your settings, lighting, or other stuff but the photo captured my interest and while it does seem a little dark to my eye it is really cool.

I don't mind the noise at all, I would have cropped it a little tighter across the top. I find the ball position is a little high, catching it a little closer to the bat would have made for a stronger image. It is a very simple clean picture though, which is why it does work so well.
