So this is going to seem strange but i thought where else could i ask such a thing and get a good answer haha

Basically i bought a new camera on ebay and picked it up yesterday, it's working fine and everything, it's the carry case i have a question about. So the carry case stinks of smoke, guessing because it is from a smoking home and i was wondering anyone know any methods to get rid of that smell.

i was thinking stick it in the washing machine, but i don't know if that will just mess up the case completely.

It's just one of them Sigma carry cases they give out with there lenses, not that i will use it much, just handy to have if im only going to be taking one extra lens with me for the day.

Any suggestions?

Maybe one of those Fridge Boxes of baking soda? I don't think I'd want any lose baking soda in the bag, tho, that's why I suggested the Fridge Box. It has a screen on the side to expose the baking soda without being messy. Let it sit for a week or so.

Another favorite of mine, esp for smelly shoes - stick a couple of dryer sheets in the bag! Although, that really only masks the smell, but may help with whatever the baking soda doesn't absorb.

Febreeze is suppose to remove the smell and what caused it.

Why were you hesitant to ask this question? Why is this a strange question?? You just wanna know how to get rid of the smell of cigarette smoke..

cheers for the advice guys, will test them out and see if they work :)

and
SabrinO - i just wasn't sure if it would be a strange question or not, i wasn't hesitant just unsure if i would get an answer :)

Here's an old hippie trick I learned to remove bad smells from a fridge. Instead of baking soda, take some old newspapers, ball them up one page at a time, then stuff them in the bag for 40 or so minutes up to a couple hours. The paper works waaay better than baking soda. My old fridge was stinking so bad I put some baking soda in it. After a few days, nothing much had changed. Put the newspapers in there instead and within the hour, almost all of the stench was gone.

You could also try kleenex as its a bit more absorbent...but please...take heed...do not try to do this with used ones...

You could throw it away and buy a new one, where was it from Toxteth

i might end up doing that gsgary if none of these methods work, it just came with the lens i picked up on ebay. Went to the sellers house in Crosby (so ya were close with Toxteth haha) and the carry case just stinks of smoke so trying anyway to get rid of the smell before i give up and chuck the case out.

I too could not stand the smell being a non smoker

Hi... Spray it inside and out with Fabreeze and set it out in the sunshine for a day.... It will smell good after that...

I did the febreeze trick on a couple mattresses I got for free...they had some dog urine on them at one time...soaked all sides with febreeze and still smells good to this day
