Photos NOT OK to edit
OK, so far this is what I did, and probably the way to go about it. Opened it on photoshop and saved it as "web ready" image and in jpeg format it knocks it down to 60% quality at 93KB but I raised it to 70% and images look exactly the same w/out details loss. Brings it up to 122KB but still, it's much better than original which is 354KB

You just have to use a higher jpeg compression in PS. Of course, quality will suffer, but there's always a compromise to everything.

I Save-As at 800pix on the long edge, but still......

In the Image Size dialogue box change the resolution to 72, long edge at 800, and best for reduction in the bottom pull down.

You may want to add another USM or High Pass sharpening afterwards if needed.

That's right...but you can go a long way down the slider before the loss of quality is actually visible in the image.

I see a difference between the two, the second one is lighter, lacking details, very apparent on the faces and greenery in background.

thanks. it's all done. resaved the images at 60% quality. Sorry VTF, unless you're comparing the both really carefully, general human will not notice or care. For websites its fine. Website now loads a lot faster.

If thats true, why is there always a debate between flicker and photobucket images?

Comparing threads on a forum won't answer you that question. We care here because we use these images for C&C and we want to make sure the images are in best viewing quality when posting in forums. But for websites you just cannot. Sorry but if you're images are loading at snail speed, customers will most likely leave your website and look for another one.

PS CS5 > Image> Image Size> set long side to 800 and check bicubic sharpener> Ok. Then File> save to web and devices> compression hi/ 70%> check bicubic sharpener> save.
