Suggestions for a newbie?

I have always loved photography but im just now really getting into it, probably because i can just now afford a low end "good" camera. I am looking at the Nikon coolpix L110 but have seen mixed reviews. It is at a good price point for me but i couldnt afford much more. I saw on several reviews that the Nikon Coolpix P100 is a better deal and that would be a splurge but if its worth it then i want to get the best out of my money. Any thoughts? Thanks.

the only suggestion I would make is to make sure you have a manual mode where you can set shutter and aperture. for the rest about any camera these days is fine.

A cardboard box serves as a perfectly fine pinhole camera because you control these two variables and nothing else
