#1 I think would be better with some fill light.

#2 I think a better crop with less sky and a little less of the flower in the foreground

Both appear to need the horizon leveling, and I agree with the crop on #2; probably the top half of the image can be tossed. I don't find these images to my taste, however I do think they are appropriate to the subject matter. Nice location.

The sun flare or whatever that is is overdone, IMO. If the special effects are the first thing somebody notices, then it's too much. Dial it back please.

The yellow was a sunflower petal i used to give it that effect. Thought at the time it was a good idea, now i can soo i did it a little too much.. Ill know next time xp thank you!!

With the flower i been getting mixed feelings from people! Half like it half dont!!
It was a fun little experiment tho!

Agree with above critiques and also try to remember that when shooting several images or even two that are part of the same set/scene, try to have continuity with your post processing across the images. I like the composition of the second image other than the chopping of the fingers camera right. Are there any more from this set?

can you explain this a little bit more "try to have continuity with your post processing across the images." I really dont understand what you mean! thankyou! :3

Also yes, i took a lot of photos of this set, i need to edit them first. if you are interested i can post some more here if you like!

Happy to explain, try to keep the editing the same in terms of colour temperature, colour grading, exposure etc. I know both images are different in that the first is heavily back lit, however the sky in the second one along with the models skin is very different to the first, it looks very processed where as the first looks more natural. Doing this gels images in a set together better. Hope that makes sense : )

You want your photos to become recognizable as yours, not photos that could've been taken by different people. I know mine a mile away! When I realized it was when I was taking photos for marketing for a local team and walked in their offices one day in the off season and spied some photos and papers spread out all over a table. I zeroed in on mine! lol Seriously, eventually people should be able to recognize your work.

I'd think about how you're using space, where you're cropping a subject, and use a lighter touch in the editing. It's fine to experiment and play around, I've changed a photo to tungsten just because it turns freaky and blue just for fun, but I don't save it usually, and just show it to trusted friends/fellow photographers. You don't want to show people something that looks like you sprayed yellow paint all over your picture and have them think that's how you edit for real (I wondered what you were going for there).

An idea might work but sometimes you need to think about how it comes across, sleep on it and see... does it actually work the way you had in mind? I've come back to something another day and saw exactly what I needed to do, but while I was working on it just got to the point I couldn't seem to find what was wrong or what would work better.

Once I've done my first edit and I'm happy with the look, I will walk away for at least 30 mins then come back to it with fresh eyes. It's amazing how sometimes you look at something you thought looked great a few mins ago only say to yourself "what the hell was I thinking". Then I keep the image open whilst I work on the rest ensuring continuity between them all.

I learned the technique earlier that day. Im recently been so involved with photographer groups on facebook. (its super active and people respond right away , * you know what i mean, i guess to say it faster!) Anyway a challange was take a picture of a fence, however you wish to take a pic of a fence. I took a road trip down to visit family, first stop my bf's grandmas house in Kemp, tx. Super small typical country home.

She has a lovely home, very antique!! *i took photos of her bathroom omg she has the cutestest bathroom ever xp

Anyways i was always fond of her fence. it was nice clean and protects her cute little old home. So i shoot away at the entrance, and experimented with the bushes! this was something i captured using the bushes leafes. same technique as the sunflower later that day. lol

I'm going to go out on a limb and take a wild guess here:

I will speculate that the people who are not well educated in photography like the yellow flare because they haven't seen it before, therefore they assume you're a freakin' genius at taking pictures.

The other half are the ones who have seen it all before, and usually try to not do that, so have marked you up as someone who either made a mistake or tried something that didn't quite work.

Exactly whats been going on in my mind for a few hours now xp... Everyone sees its differently then i am! with more experience means more detailed orientated! Its understandable. I see why it just doesnt quite look right..

*id admit tho, you hit it right on the money, i even thought i was a genius at the time i was doing it ahah.. what a fool i was lol
