sunrise pics not right

so i got a new canon t3i about a month ago and finally got around to taking some shots. i am still confused about photography but im trying. here are some shots from this morning. all advise is welcome, thanks

"Not right" = wrong. What's wrong with them?
 
well #2 is pretty good.

Compositionally they could use some work.

You places the horizon in the center on all of them and 2 out of 3 with the sun you placed the sun dead center.
 
Composition is the problem. There is too much dead space (area with no visual image) in a large part of the sky and foreground which produces a flat image with little perspective. You need a different camera location where there is a foreground, middle ground, and sky in the background with some visual focal point in the foreground as well as the sun rising in the background.
 
so the sun needs to be higher in the pic? i was on the edge of a cliff and when i tried to put the sun higher it picked up the houses down below..

That's kinda like telling your mechanic your car doesn't run. The issue could be lots of things.
