As a spontaneous candid, it's great. As a photograph the swing really detracts. It would definitely be worth the effort to get rid of the swing and do some careful selective work on the blacks and shadows.

I agree 100%! I'm still new to all of this (just finished up my Basic Photography class this week), so I haven't really gotten into editing as much as I'd like to. I definitely want to play around with it and try to get that swing out of there, though. I just have to figure out HOW....lol.

When you're framing shots it helps to notice the backgrounds and move around and change your vantage point, so you could put something like the swing in the frame where it looks better as part of the composition (or have it out of the picture).

I don't know how I miss some of these threads! Neat pic. Maybe some guru can clone out the swing. And I was just watching some videos on selective editing of faces and shadows and such on Adobe's Lightroom tutorials website. Don't know what you use, but these vids are good!
