There is no point buying T3i.

Get a T2i and spend the difference on glass. Glass is what gonna matter much much more than the difference in T3i and T2i.

If Nikon, D5100 is an excellent camera. Same capability as Canon counterparts with the amazing sensor of D7000 thrown in which has similar DR capability as some FFs.

I love my D5100 too, but the movie option of DSLRs is really not the reason why you should buy one.

Its more like Canonists are panically trying to summon up arguments why Nikon is bad, and actually start complaining about a (small) advantage of Nikon.

For the fact that there are older and cheaper versions of many lenses which need an AF motor in the camera is actually an advantage of Nikon. You can buy one of the more expensive cameras of Nikon and get some of your money back through buying cheaper lenses. The lens will be louder and often slower than the newer counterpart, but its optically practically the same.

More expensive Nikon cameras have an autofocus motor in the camera itself. It allows to use older Nikon lenses which dont have an autofocus motor in the camera.

Canon has no such option in the first place anyway. Canon switched to their EOS system in 1987, dropping backward compability to earlier cameras completely, and all EOS lenses have the motor in the lens.

Neither do cheap Nikon cameras, like the D5100. So with the D5100, you have to buy the newer versions of lenses that already have the autofocus motor.

Its basically the most riddiculous argument you could ever summon up why Nikon would be "bad". In effect, you complain about the fact that Nikon has more backward compability, because the Nikon F mount is much older than the Canon EOS mount.

I believe nikons af-s designation is much newer than canon EF designation.

Color sensitive metering and the ability to slave a flash without having an external flash attached. So there is indeed a point with going with the newer model

It is true the sensors are virtually identical but the sensor isn't the only part of the camera and when last I checked the price difference between the 2 cameras was only like $50 at most.

Canon's EF is one of 2 lens mounts Canon currently uses.
