Tabletop tripod, anyone?

I'm thinking about buying a small, convenient, "tabletop" tripod to use while traveling.

Does anybody own one?

Thought about the Manfrotto 709b.

I literally have one within reach at all times - no exaggeration.

To me, it's important that I always have a tripod with me, at the very least, this one:

I really like it a LOT. I bought it on a whim in San Francisco about 10 years ago at a camera shop there, and it's been a GREAT piece of kit for me! Sturdy, tough, light, easy to carry. I have literally abused this thing for 10 years, and it still works like the day I bought it. The built in velcro strap works great on signposts, tree limbs, door handles, fences, and other weird spots to secure it.

When the opportunity for a shot presents itself, but I've just GOT to have a tripod to get it, and didn't bring a full sized one because I REALLY didn't think I'd need one, I'm covered:

I have a Joby (GorillaPod), and it's alright for a small, lightweight P&S - but I really should get one with solid legs.

I haven't found one that is sturdy enough for my d300 with the battery pack.

Just watch your weights. I have yet to find one that will hold up a D800 and a 24-70 2.8. Granted, I haven't looked SUPER hard yet, but...

For something like this, I'd be OK with it not being able to support the full weight on it's own - a little added support is often all I'm looking for. Like a folding sand bag, lol.

That's really not a bad idea, actually. Course maybe a little heavy.

from what I can see from the pix it's filled with plastic beads. I don't imagine it being too heavy.

Sunpak 423PX2 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod 620-423-CFT-PX2 B&H

Though frankly, that Giottos one likely has the OTHER problem of small tripods, which is that the camera (if heavy with a long lens) can easily fall over.

Frankly, that bean bag idea is looking more and more attractive.

Yeah those little ones do seem kind of dinky for a DSLR.
